Meet the Girl Behind it All
|
This organization was started by my older sister Lona. She started this program after I battled 2
long years of cancer. When I was 12 years old I was diagnosed with K-1 Large-Cell Lymphoma.
I know what your thinking, How could such a young girl handle so much? Well I did, I kept my
head high and thought positive things. Of course there were many bumps along the road, I have
had several infections, 3 surgeries, many scans, spinal meningitis, and my hair fell out. But that
was not going to slow me down!
Many times I thought I was going to die because of how sick I was. I had a couple of close
friends I met in the hospital die, and I was scared I would too, but the doctors and nurses were
great! They told me to think positive, and helped me every step of the way.
My parents and sisters helped me a lot too. I would have to thank my mom for always being
there to clean my throw up, she also calmed me down. I would also have to thank my dad
because he taught me how to take pills, and always calmed me down too. My sisters came up to
the hospital as much as they could, they sat and watched our favorites shows with me, and they
were always there when I needed someone to snack with.
There are many Nurses I like to thank too:
Carrie always played games with me when my parents left for the night, and she would always
have midnight snacks with me.
Ellen will always be in a special place of my heart, she always gave me my shots, and I know
she didn't feel good doing that, but I trusted her. She also came in at night when my parents left
and watched some TV with me.
Wanda and I loved to raid the snack draw and watch TV.
The child-life specialists Teri and Rochelle were great, they always had crafts for me to do, and
Rochelle always played Uno with me.
To normal people those nurses are just regular people, but to me, they are another part of my
family!
I hope you will find it in your heart to make a donation to Mikie's Angels, it will mean so much to
a friend in the hospital.
